Lake Arrowhead, California always seems like a good idea.  They have a great summer concert series, lots of hiking trails, and the village features some awesome places to eat with great scenery and some cool outlet stores as well as boutique shops.  I love spending Halloween there.  It might be one of the best places in SoCal to see the fall leaves.
